Parit Sikong - Pineapple Plantation 31/08/11

This soil is called "tanah gambut" in Malay or "peat soil" in English.
When you step on it, you definitely feel like you step on a thick and soft carpet.

We use to think that this soil is the best choice for pineapple, actually it is not.

There are so many pineapple farms at Pontian, Pekan Nenas and Parit Sikong is because this kind of soil has no good return value in any plantation other than pineapple and sweet corn. No houses can be built on this soil because it is soft and can sink heavy object after long time.

Tanah Gambut or Peat Soil or 泥碳地
